The Washington State Commission on Hispanic Affairs (CHA) seeks to fill two commissioner vacancies.  Commissioner Victor Chacon from Walla Walla and Gabriel Portugal from Pasco will be leaving the Commission on 8-1-08 due to their terms expiring.  They served the Hispanic community well during their tenure as Commissioners and they will be greatly missed.

The Commission advises the Governor, the legislature, state and local agencies on policies and practices that affect the Latino community of the state.  Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the Commission's website at www.cha.wa.gov

Current Commissioners reside in Bellevue, Everett, Olympia, Seattle, Spokane, the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla.  We encourage the public in general and entrepreneurs throughout the state of Washington particularly in Adams, Benton, Franklin, Grant, Asotin, Columbian, Dayton, Garfield, Walla Walla,  and Whitman counties to apply for these commissioner vacancies.

Application deadline is July 10, 2008.

Commissioners are involved in substantive committee meetings and are expected to locally represent the Commission through involvement with the Latino community.  All Commission members serve as volunteers.  Travel reimbursements are provided for Commission business.  Terms are for three years (with an opportunity for a second three-year term).  Commissioners are expected to attend six meetings a year, typically held on Friday afternoon and Saturday mornings.   These meetings are held every other month throughout the state.  Those interested may apply by submitting a letter of interest, a resume, and a Board application to: Commission on Hispanic Affairs, P.O. Box 40924, Olympia, WA  98504.  Persons may also complete an electronic application, which can be found at http://www.governor.wa.gov/boards/application/application.pdf Please send all electronic information via email to: hispanic@cha.wa.gov.
