Returning War Veterans with Disabilities Need Employment,  May Be Eligible for Economic Stimulus Payment

According to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), 30,960 military personnel serving in the war, which includes action in Iraq, Afghanistan, and surrounding duty stations, have been wounded in action. These disabilities include amputations, burns, post traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries, blindness, deafness and other conditions. (More information on these DoD Personnel and Procurement Statistics).

The federal government has recently issued helpful guidance to employers seeking to hire veterans with disabilities, and to veterans with disabilities seeking employment.  Read the guides and information for employers and veterans on the ADA and returning veterans.

Note also that the economic stimulus law passed in February contains a special provision allowing recipients of certain veterans' benefits to count those benefits toward the qualifying income requirement of $3,000 and thereby qualify for the payments under the President's Economic Stimulus plan (details).
